Toronto BJJers do an awesome job winning Canada's largest tournament, the Ontario Open, for the 2nd straight year. Despite many teams bringing more quantity in terms of competitors, we showed a vast advantage in quality by winning all but one of the most contestested absolute divsions and a Toronto BJJ alum won that one too!!!
To give you an idea of just how awesome the results were you have to look at the adult blue and purple belt divisions. that is where the most competitors from across Canada signed up, and the competition was the fiercest. Between the two belt there were 20 divsions, we entered 15 of them winning Gold in ten, making the final in another, and a bronze in one more. In 5 of the divisons we took home both Gold and Silver, and in 2 of the divsions we took home both Gold and Bronze. So in other words in those 15 divsions we entered we were more successful than the rest of the field combined,

This past weekend saw 9 members of Toronto BJJ go to the Ottawa Open. We had one of the smallest teams at the tournament (two teams had over 100 more competitors than us). That did not stop us from placing 3rd overall. We took home Gold in 6 out of 10 of the divisions we entered (in 3 of those divisons we took both Gold and Silver) with a Silver and Bronze in two other. Overall we took home 6 Gold, 4 Silver, and 1 Bronze medal.
Our head BJJ instructor, Jorge Britto, had a dominant performance in MMA. Unfortunately had to forfeit befrore the 3rd and final round after dominating the first 2 rounds, when it was determined between the rounds that he had injured himself and the doctor would not allow him to continue. We applaud the Doctor and the commission for the sport for having proper proceures, rules, and medical support in place to protect the competitors.
We also had two kickboxing competitors have successful showings in their exhibition bouts!!!
